Pep Gatell Opens ACM CHI 2026 with the Keynote "Anticipatory Arts"
On April 13th, Pep Gatell, artistic director of La Fura dels Baus and president of the Épica Foundation, delivered the opening keynote at ACM CHI 2026, titled "Anticipatory Arts". Speaking to an audience of over 5,000 attendees at the Centre de Convencions Internacional de Barcelona (CCIB), Gatell traced the 40-year journey of La Fura dels Baus and its long-standing relationship with technology and human-machine interaction.
He also introduced the Épica Foundation and made a case for horizontal collaboration between science, technology, and art as a driver of meaningful innovation. The keynote concluded with a live demonstration of Kalliope 2, which captivated the audience.
ACM CHI 2026, themed "Creating Tomorrow Together", is the world's leading international conference on Human-Computer Interaction, organized by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). Held from April 13 to 17 in Barcelona, it brings together thousands of researchers, designers, and technologists from around the globe to share the latest advances in human-centered computing. This year, Barcelona has become the global hub of the discipline.
