Le Quattro Morti di Pier Paolo Pasolini

The play arrives in Tokyo

Le Quattro Morti di Pier Paolo Pasolini, by Gian Maria Cervo and artistic direction by Pep Gatell is a project that premiered in Naples in 2022 and has returned to the stage at the Italian Institute of Culture in Tokyo in 2024.

The project focuses on the figure of Pier Paolo Pasolini, writer, poet and filmmaker and reflects on his role in national and international culture. The project works on Pasolini’s death based on paintings by contemporary artist Nicola Verlato, a painter considered one of the greatest exponents of lowbrow art, A.I. Art and NFT Art. In his paintings, Verlato transfers Pasolini’s death to historical settings, such as the murder of Christopher Marlowe, or the death of the Graco brothers in the Republican Rome of the II century A.C.

In order to support the project, the Foundation’s artistic and technological team travelled to Naples in July and Tokyo in August. The result was presented on 2 August in Tokyo: an immersive work based on Cervo’s dramaturgy in which a second narrative is included through Kalliope, allowing the public to become part of the experience.
