FECYT’s White Paper

White Paper Front Page

The object: a new format

On the occasion of the update of the White Paper on the Interrelation between Art, Science, Technology and Society in Spain of the Fundación Española para la Ciencia y la Tecnología (FECYT), Pep Gatell, president of the Épica Foundation, conceptualizes, designs and develops a new format for the publication.
Gatell proposes an object as an artistic piece that arises with the intention of connecting the more physical and aesthetic part of a “book” with the sustainable and digital dimension. The result of this conceptualization process has been the development of a 3D model prepared for free digital printing that represents the White Paper and that allows each face of the model to be individually recognized by a computer vision system through a mobile application that is able to recognize the object.
The Book and its object were presented last 15th June at Sónar +D in Barcelona.

The components of the book are available in open source, being possible to print them in 3D for its construction. In this .zip you can download the files and the instructions. Once the piece is built, download the application here and explore!

The content

The main objective of this publication, promoted by FECYT between 2006 and 2007 at the proposal of its Humanities Commission, is to generate a perspective of the Art-Science-Technology-Society (ACTS) field that is more transversal, collective and adjusted to its own reality.

Epica participates in the working group of specialists in this field that, together with numerous interdisciplinary agents, is responsible for analyzing the current state of the ACTS field. Through a selection of national and international case studies, the text proposes a diagnosis of the current situation of these disciplines and the actors that compose it.
