BiblioEscape is a project that proposes the use of the Kalliópê transmedia tool, made up of software and a mobile application, to create an automated escape room in the public library network of the city of Badalona. The activity is aimed, on the one hand, at young people between the ages of 14 and 16, responsible for designing and generating the content – eminently digital – of the escape rooms based on materials from these public facilities (books, comics, files, magazines, etc.). On the other hand, the project directly involves cultural managers and different library professionals, who, through prior training in new technologies and digitization, will be responsible for offering and launching the activity for visitors, promoting cultural activity and the use of libraries as a space for experimentation, favoring the reconnection of young people with this cultural space.

Escape Room created by young people from Badalona
Collaboration with the La Riera institute
After a previous work carried out by the Épica Foundation regarding the technological development and adaptation of Kalliópê, the activity starts from 8 co-creation sessions with the students of 3rd year of ESO from the Institut La Riera de Badalona.
The first work sessions are based on the Épica Foundation methodology, and their objective is to promote necessary skills such as creativity, the ability to collaborate and work in a team, polyvocal processes, managing emotions… as well as the Strengthening relationships within the groups that allow the rest of the project to be carried out with guarantees.
Subsequently, the ideation and creation phase begins, which starts from small training capsules: narrative and gamification, use of new technologies and audiovisual creation. In this phase, the participating 3rd ESO students, with the help of the project team and the library staff, develop the first design of the story / activity based on the multidisciplinary resources existing in the libraries (books, specialty , space…) and the concerns and interests of the participants themselves.
First tests, creation of the final narrative and audiovisual creation
Based on the results of the ideation phase, the participants, with the help of the project team and the library staff, carry out the first tests on the technological tool and the contents are readjusted to proceed to the validation phase.
Once the proposal has been validated in-situ (the pilot is carried out in the Canyadó i Casagemes public library in Badalona) as a test with students from the same institute invited as audience.
Training for library professionals
After the pilot test at the Canyadó i Casagemes Library in Badalona, the Foundation team held a training session for library professionals at the Canyadó i Casagemes Library in Badalona. They learned to use the tool, both the dashboard and the application, to be able to offer the activity independently. Once the training was completed, the Foundation team made technical visits to the libraries of Lloreda, Sant Roc, Llefià and Pomar to adapt the activity to the architecture of each space as well as its contents.
Once the contents were adapted, they were presented in each of the facilities in consecutive sessions with the support of the Foundation team. The presentations, made during the months of October, November and December, served as the premiere for these activities that will remain in each of the facilities available to the public (Lloreda, Llefià, Pomar and Canyadó i Casagemes).
