Virtual residence Kalliópê

The Foundation launches its first virtual residence

The objective of this call is to offer, for a certain period, the communication tool developed by the Foundation, Kalliópê, to 3 creative and innovative proposals adapted to the “new normal” situation, who want to experiment with the integration of this platform, or those projects that seek new ways and opportunities to access new audiences through innovative technologies.
Kalliópê is a set of digital tools that are used for the communication of audiovisual content in large audiences, programming interactions with the public through the sending of multimedia messages on their mobile devices in a segmented / personalized way.
The residence will have a maximum duration of 6 months and will culminate with a public, virtual, live exhibition or as a physical-digital combination, of the proposed beneficiary of the residence.

The selected projects

After the evaluation process, all the proposals, the Foundation has agreed to expand the Residence, selecting a total of 5 international projects, which have stood out for their creative value and their trajectory:

MODALITY 2 – Creative project
-“Apártate de la oscuridad”, Sophya Acosta LDS + Bauch (Argentina), an interactive experience  that works on the relationship with Argentine stories in the context of hyper-virtuality in which we currently live.
-“La matrix 2.0”, Agrupación Convocatoria Cerrada (Costa Rica), an interactive proposal of “influencers” characters that are linked to a social network.

MODALITY 3 – Research project:
-“Hope(?)”, Open the Kimono (Denmark), a project born with the aim of developing immersive multicultural and multidisciplinary experiences that will transform the city of Aarhus.

First results

The initial deadline for the residency was June 30, 2021. Due to the persistence of the pandemic situation and the difficulties that it has brought about in carrying out the planned activities, the Foundation has agreed to extend the period of residence until August 30, 2021. In this way, the period to carry out and materialize the tests with users is extended.
The residence has made available to the participants the virtual tool Kalliópê and the necessary support for its use and integration in their creative proposals. Throughout the months of residency, there have been both general sessions with all the groups involved and meetings with each of the teams to find tailor-made solutions for their projects.
The creative teams, in accordance with the bases of the Residency, have presented their projects with users and/or audiences.

The creators of the project had the objective of “generating an experience that would go beyond the screens and that would color the daily spaces of the participant, generating a kind of “filter” in their eyes that would condition and give new meaning to their personal spheres.”
For this, the creative team made a double proposal: on the one hand, the possibility of a multiscreen experience, and on the other, Kalliópê as the only support for the development of the story.
A mix of folklore and virtual drama that turns the viewers’ phone into an essential element of the plot.

HOPE(?) is a project created by Open The Kimono, an international team based in Aarhus (Denmark). On August 7, the premiere took place in the Sydhavn district (Aarhus), specifically in an industrial port. The actors and participants toured different areas, with the aim of giving life to little-crowded places. The final point was a multipurpose room set up as a theater: “An immersive experience that awakens the invisible world”
A mixture of theatre, performance and technology full of fantasy that has used the Kalliópê tool as a guide. Throughout the experience, the audience was at the center of the narrative, challenged, making decisions and interacting with the characters to defeat an evil entity called Umbra.

The Teatro Brújula team presented the first season of the TRASLACRUZ de la Sierra, a cycle of theater-game experiences where the audience discovers the history of the city and reflects on identity.
Entitled “Ghosts and inhabitants of the third yard”, the first season premiered in La Federal, Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia. The public walks through the three patios of an old mansion in the city guided by a transversal narrative through the Kalliópê tool, and meets characters with whom they interact, playing different roles depending on each situation.

Thus, the public divided into 4 groups, can see three scenes -out of four possible-, through the game and direct interaction with the characters -and with each other-, to finally reconstruct the possible stories.
A reflection on the construction of identity from what we see, experience it, and what they tell us.
