Cubiculum Apertum

Library: space for experimentation

Cubiculum Apertum is a project aimed at young people between the ages of 12 and 16 with the aim of reconnecting adolescents with libraries through creativity, the use of new technologies and multidisciplinary learning.
Through this project, the participants will have to create different escape rooms in three Badalona Libraries (St. Roc, Llefià and Canyadó i Casagemes) through new technologies, creativity and the materials that we find there (books, comics, cards, magazines, etc.).

Cubiculum Apertum is part of the BiblioLab program of the Municipal Libraries Network of the Barcelona Provincial Council, which develops actions aimed at accessing knowledge through experimentation and innovative and creative methodologies in an environment such as libraries.

Creation

The project was articulated in a total of 12 sessions held in each of the libraries. The participants, a total of 24 young people, learned to create their own enigmas and secret codes, as well as notions about narrative, script and the use of new technologies. Divided into groups, each team was in charge of creating a part of the escape room based on the spacs of each of the libraries and, above all, the specialized contents of the equipment.
The common element used in the escape rooms was the Kalliópê technological tool, a mobile app developed at Fundación Épica. This mass communication system allows real-time sending images, videos, audio, colors, turning on the flashlight, webs… to the audience’s mobiles. Kalliópê was used to narrate the different stories, as well as to send the tests that the players had to solve.

Results

The libraries that participated in the Cubiculum Apertum project were those of Canyadó i Casagemes, Llefià and Sant Roc. During the last sessions, the participants of each of these libraries met to make a great escape room together in the central library of can Casacuberta.
